Johnny Osbourne & Nardo Ranks show at Surf Lodge

Over the Summer I produced some Reggae concerts out in Montauk at The Surf Lodge. Johnny Osbourne murdered it, watch and enjoy...

Nardo Ranks also killed it

BlackGold Dance Crew Mixtape:

So it took a minute but the BlackGold Anniversary mixtape is done! DJ Select and I worked hard on it (around Select's cruise ship tours) and BK's own Micro Don held down hosting duties.

Pics from June Rice and Peas (Chino Release Party)

So Rice and Peas last month was truly a unique night. We celebrated the release of the Chino / Stephen McGregor album with VP records and Reggae legends Damian Marley, Freddie McGregor, Mr. Easy, Red Fox and... OK, I'll stop! Shouts to everyone that have been supporting Rice and Peas from day one. Bless.

Hamptons gig with Johnny Osbourne

Sunday morning it was straight out east to the Hamptons for my gig at Surf Lodge w/ none other than Dancehall Godfather, Johnny Osbourne.

My DJ set was well received but I'll admit it getting heavy compliments from Mike D (of the Beastie Boys) for playing his 'favorite joints' was big for me as Beasties were a huge influence on me growing up from like 4th grade on!

Fast forward a bit, Martei opened up with some fresh Lover's Rock chunes and then Johnny Osbourne & The Reggae Roadblock band took the stage and they KILTEDED it, for those unfamiliar with the lingo, Mr. Osbourne's vocal performance was impeccable, like fine wine, his voice seems to only get better with age.

Shouts to the Live-Well crew and the Surf Lodge for bringing real Reggae out east for the vacationers!

Rice and Peas vs. Get Your Dance On !

We're really excited to be included in this dope weekly dance series, 'Get Your Dance On' and we're in especially good company (?uestlove, King Britt, Carl Coxx, Nicodemus...) They told me I couldn't take Reggae certain places, I said, "wanna watch me?"

So in honor of BK's finest MC of all time I have to post this. I always felt B.I.G. being the son of a Jamaican immigrant was a huge factor in his upbringing and as a result, in his music. I also saw how he and Pac were the first rappers JA really gravitated towards and referenced in tunes, I'd always wished Biggie could have collab'd with more Dancehall artists.

So I made this mix CD back in 06 / 07 to show how dope it woulda been had he gotten a chance to work with artists that are huge in the most thorough borough.

Brent Rollins x Gasface

Designer Brent Rollins (W.I'M.F. 02) from Gasface on Vimeo.

Just got put on to this interview with the homie Brent Rollins about his design work on cult-ishly celebrated pop culture landmarks from 'Boyz In The Hood' to classic Stussy gear, Gangstarr album covers and some ill stories... Peep game!

Holdin' a vibe with Nardo Ranks in San Diego after show

So during my Summer '09 West Coast tour I brought early 90's dancehall crossover artist, Nardo Ranks out to San Diego. We had just "mashed up the club" with San Diego Reggae dons, Tribe of Kings and the massive showed mad love...

The next morning at our poolside breakfast Nardo saw a young kid drowning in the pool while his parent was distracted and unaware. Out of nowhere Nardo screamed, "YOOOO!" to get the parent's attention (I thought he was losing it) but I quickly realized, dude was saving this lil kid's life!

Large up my good friend Nrdo Ranks aka Original Mr. Burrrrrups!!!

reOPENed Party 1 Year Anniversary

So this coming Friday we're celebrating a full year of reOPENed. This party has been recognized as the best New York has to offer for all types of people. There are too many noteworthy people that have passed through, spun guests sets, performed, etc. to start listing em off but anyways...

We have World champion, DJ for Kanye, and the dude behind the celebrated label Fool's Gold. If that doesn't spell it out for you, none other than A-Trak will grace the decks to celebrate a year of great music, by the best DJs, in the greatest city on Earth, through a monstrous sound system complimented by some seriously tripworthy lights, and a vibe that can't be bought or faked.
